R-E-S-P-E-C-T
The word respect is a human invention. It's purpose and use is to elicit a group of feelings that include power, authority, boundaries, value and whatever else the listener associates with the word.
Horses don't know diddley about the word respect OR it's human interpretations. If you want to be a good trainer with your horse forget the word respect and focus on what you want in terms of PHYSICAL actions. Do you want your horse to stop within 2 feet of you? Then train that.
As a trainer my goal is to give my horse clear cues or signals. What I want from my horse is an effort to figure out what I want because he WANTS to. That's good horse training.

Cute baby horse will do anything to be scratched - Clicker Training Horses
Sweetie and I are working on training reinforcement substitutes,or secondary reinforcers. There are many different stages of the conditioning of the scratch that you can see during this video. It is more advanced, but very fun. For more information please find me on my FB site "Clicker-Training-Horses."
